Second round of funding
The second round of BRIDGES is now open for submissions.
General information
Letters of intent must be sent to the IDF Executive Office before March 31 2009, 22.00 (GMT+1). Letters of intent received after this date will not be taken into consideration.
Applicants will be notified of the decision of the BRIDGES Review Committee during the first week of May 2009. Only applicants of projects considered suitable for BRIDGES will be requested to submit a full application form before July 1 2009.
The decision of the BRIDGES Review Committee is final. Acceptance of the letter of intent does not imply that the project will be selected for funding.
Help kit
In order to help you in completing the letter of intent, the International Diabetes Federation has developed a help kit. We highly recommend that you download and study the documents below:
- A presentation on grant writing developed by Dr Narayan and Ms Weber (Emory University) which was used during the BRIDGES workshops in 2008.
- A summarized version of a good application received and accepted in the 1st round of funding.
- An example of a sample size calculation using one-line calculators.

Letter of intent
The letter of intent is composed of 3 documents. Please download the documents, complete them and return to the BRIDGES Executive Office by email (bridges@idf.org) by March 31 2009, 22.00 (GMT+1).
To ensure transparency and objectivity, please note that only part three of the document will be sent to the BRIDGES Review Committee.
Crieria for selection
The following criteria will be used by reviewers:
- The project must be on translational research in diabetes
- Should the project take place in a foreign country, one of the main institution and Principal Investigator must be from that country
- The proposed study should be innovative (not already under study regionally) and should not be similar to a project, in the same country, already supported by BRIDGES
- The project should be of relevance and should have an impact on diabetes communities and futur research
- The project should have the potential to be sustainable
- The hypothesis and the methodology proposed should be reasonnable
- The budget should fit the plan as well as the financial criteria defined by BRIDGES
